QUARTERLY PRAYER LETTER

JULY 2010

“Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people” (Psalms 77:14).

 Dear Friends in Christ,

As we come to you in the middle of the summer, we have much to be thankful for.  Certainly the Lord has declared His strength among His people and has done many wonders.  When I think of how much the Lord has done in the last three months, I cannot help but rejoice and give praise unto His wonderful name.  I would like to share with you briefly what the Lord has done for me and the ministry He has called us to do.

First of all, on April 19, 2010, I went into surgery and had my right knee replaced.  I had come to a point in which I could hardly walk.  The surgery was a success!  In fact, my recovery has been far ahead of what it should be and what it was at this same time when I had my left knee replaced four years ago.  This afternoon I went in for my three month checkup and the doctor was so pleased with the healing that he told me not to come back again until one year from the time of the surgery.

The second thing that we are thankful for is the completion of the roof on Grove Baptist Church in the Nigerian Bush.  I want to say thank you and God bless you to all who helped with this great financial need.  The people now have a dry place to worship during the rainy season and also a place to keep them out of the sun.  Our prayer now is for the completion of the building itself.  The next step that needs to be taken is to apply cement to the sides of the block to strengthen it.  The cost of cement per bag is approximately $11.00US along with the cost of sand and labor.  If you would like to give toward this earmark it for cement and your gift will go only towards the cement expense.  Also, the church needs windows but I don’t yet have the cost for this project.  We seem to be on the downhill side of completing this place of worship unto the Lord.  We are just trying to get it done one step at a time.

We are planning to return to Nigeria in November 2010.  Our targeted date to depart is Nov. 11, 2010 with a planned return on Nov. 22, 2010.  We have a local pastor that is considering going with us which is always wonderful because we can get twice as much preaching done to the lost.  Right now the Nigerian State of Edo, which is where we go, is still having some problems but not as many as they were when our last letter was distributed.  Please pray that things will get back to normal by the time we are to depart.

Also, Pastors, we would be very thankful if you will allow us to come and present our burden for this trip that we might raise the necessary funds that are needed.   Right now our plans are to conduct a Bible Conference at the Spread the Word Bible College in Benin City and Crusades in three different villages in the Nigerian Bush.  We also plan to preach in as many schools as we are able.  The cost for this is great as the Nigerians are very poor people.  For instance, there is the cost of travel to Nigeria, the cost of travel within Nigeria, the cost of printing the study guides for the Bible Conference and the cost of feeding those who help us while we are there.  There is an additional cost for a Public Address System (which we usually rent).  This system is needed when we have the outdoor Crusades in the villages at night. We’re praying that one day we will have a PA System of our own.  Another need for the Grove Baptist Church and for use in the Crusades is a keyboard.  If your church or maybe you as an individual would have one you would like to donate to the ministry we could ship it cheaper than we could purchase one there.

As always we are looking for KJV Bibles to give out to the people.  We can purchase paperback Bibles in Nigeria for about $2.00 each.  We ask that you pray about what the Lord would have you to do in helping with the Bibles.  If the local pastor goes with me that allows me an extra suitcase to carry Bibles in.

In closing, please remember us in your prayers and make the following part of your prayers each and every day:

Ø  More open doors to present our burden and work that the Lord has called us to do.

Ø  The needed funds for the upcoming mission trip to Nigeria.

Ø  A keyboard along with a PA system for the church and Crusades

Ø  Materials to complete the Grove Baptist Church Building.

Ø  Bibles to give out in Nigeria.

Ø  Many to heed to the preaching of the Gospel

God Bless,
Doug and Sharon
